Maria - Tagelharpa & Violin Teacher
Hi! I’m Maria – a professional violinist, music educator and tagelharpa player.
I graduated from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and have been playing the violin since I was three years old. For more than 10 years I have been teaching violin, music theory, solfeggio, harmony, piano and – one of my favourite instruments – the Scandinavian bowed lyre, tagelharpa (talharpa).
For me every lesson is a little separate world. I genuinely love teaching, and I always try to give my students my full attention, energy and enthusiasm. I believe that learning an instrument can be both easy and enjoyable while still being a powerful learning process.
I’ll gently but confidently guide you forward paying attention to your individual goals and potential. You don’t need to be an experienced musician – complete beginners are very welcome!
What we can explore together
• How to hold and play the tagelharpa
• Bowing technique and sound production
• Rhythm and basic musical skills
• Playing traditional Nordic melodies
• Learning by ear
• Understanding melodies and musical structure
If you already play another instrument I can also help you transfer your musical experience to the tagelharpa.
I teach in English and Russian and offer online and offline lessons.
Alongside teaching, I am an active performer. I have played with orchestras and ensembles including Persimfans, Rosarium, and Collegium Musicum and I am a ex-member of the folk band Spiritual Seasons. I am also the founder of the Slavic folk group Istók and Istók Music School.
Creator of Talharpa Space – Moscow talharpa studio. https://talharpaspace.ru
I especially love combining my classical musical background with traditional and folk music. I also teach authentic performance practice on Baroque violin.
Whether you want to learn your very first tagelharpa melody, explore Scandinavian folk music or simply discover a completely new instrument – I’d be happy to play and learn together with you. 🌿
